How to Save Money When Driving a Vehicle?


Drive less miles! 🤨😱


Walk children to school! 🚶🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️


Walk to your local shops! 🚶🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️


Ride your bike or jog! 🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃


Share the cost of buying and running a vehicle with someone else in your household 😲🥳


Can you buy your fuel at a cheaper place ‼️⁉️


Can you buy a lower performance vehicle fuel 🤔🤔🙄


Know your vehicle! Know it's miles per gallon, tyre pressure, oil type, when it was last serviced, annual car tax fee, it's levels of performance and efficiency. 


When buying a vehicle do some mindful research about the various models available and the various different running costs. Main points to consider 

  • annual tax cost 

  • engine size cc 

  • miles per gallon 

  • service history 

  • vehicle size, number of seats 

  • fuel type 

  • transmission type (manual, automatic or semi automatic) 

  • mileage 

  • vehicles age

  • cost of upkeep, maintenance and replacing broken parts

  • car insurance


Drive a vehicle that does more miles per gallon of fuel, then you get more miles for the same fuel cost ⛽🚘🛣️


Shop around for cheaper car insurance deals, and do this every year when you receive your yearly renewal 👛🪙

Over revving your motor uses unnecessary fuel. So don't go speeding around like a Formula 1 professional racing car driving🏎️🏁🏍️🏁 


Be aware of what is in your motor, the more contents the more weight being carried and the more fuel being used 🏋️🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️


In cold winter months don't leave your vehicle idling for ten minutes to warm it up, instead wrap yourself up warmer and get on with your journey. However some newer models warm up very quickly and de-ice windows fast 🧤🧥🧦👢


Air conditioning is used in hot summer months, consider opening windows to stay cooler during shorter journeys ☀️☀️☀️🪟


When using air conditioning and temperature control, consider what temperature settings you choose, by changing the temperature slightly you may save energy in the long run 🌡️🤒

If you are self employed then claim the costs of running your vehicle through expenses. For example by using 'simplified expenses' on your tax return you can claim a flat rate allowance for business miles of 45p per mile up to 10,000 miles and 25p thereafter 💰💰💰

Consider doing your weekly shopping online, some supermarkets charge delivery

  • Iceland have a good deal in many areas free next Day delivery of you spend £40

  • Tesco's delivery saver monthly scheme £7.99 per month minimum spend £40 can have 1 delivery each day and can deliver to different addresses

  • Tesco one hour slot between £3-7 

  • Morrisons pay in various ways, if one lot of shopping per week typical average cost is £3.89*

Consider doing your once weekly shop, fortnightly or once monthly.


Do you have the option of selecting a cheaper alternative supermarket to reduce outgoings they way?

Some people still buy new ones every week instead of taking used ones from home. This may sound unrelated but buying 4 carrier bags every week at between 25p to 50p each is a cost of £1 to £2 per week! Quick work out of usage from meter reading  To find out how many meter units used  New Meter Reading - Old Meter Reading = Meter Units Used  Most gas meters are in m3 units, some are in ft3.  Have a look on your actual meter to find out if it is in m3 or ft3.  If it is in m3, then next we convert m3 into kWh. TVs and Energy Consumption Recently I noticed my bedroom TV was 200W and my living room TV 100W, yet they are about the same size. However, the 100W TV is a newer more energy efficient model. So I thought I would have a look at the energy efficiency of TVs. To reduce energy use  Settings on most newer models can be set to an economical power saving mode & can be set to time off automatically, which is a great way to help save energy.   Screen size and screen resolution have an impact upon how much energy a TV uses.  For example  55" TV on average uses 77W.   32" TV on average uses 32W .  For example  4K 2160p TV typically uses over double the energy of full High Def 1080p TV.   Modern LED TVs are supposed to be the most energy efficient , which makes sense when we know LED light bulbs are energy efficient.   It seems like newer home appliances are becoming more energy efficient but it can sometimes be difficult trying to wo...
